URBAN 2000 & Vertical Transport and Mixing (VTMX):
    Urban 2000 Study
"The data [from URBAN 2000] will help in the development of models that depict the turbulent flow of air around buildings and will ultimately prepare us for possible releases - accidental or intentional - of toxic substances.  But in order to do this models must incorporate mixing and flow of air on larger scales - across a whole city.  Thus, it was both fortuitous and by design that URBAN 2000 took place during yet another experiment, VTMX 2000, which sampled a broader context - Salt Lake Valley.
Vertical Transport and Mixing (VTMX) VTMX looked at the mixing flows and stable stratification of low-level air that develops overnight in the region. The instrument setup for VTMX covered the scales that directly affected the problems posed by URBAN 2000 in and around the city domain. One project was spatially embedded into another and the benefits of the larger cascaded down to the smaller." (Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, BAMS; April 2002), BAMS; April 2002)
